Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems provide clean and
continuous power to critical loads such as computers and
manufacturing process controls. At the heart of the UPS system is a
battery, which provides a virtually instantaneous power source in
the event of utility power fluctuations or outage. The battery is
sized to bridge the gap between loss of utility power and
introduction of an alternate source of power like a generator. Where
an alternate power source is not available, the UPS battery must be
sized to allow for an orderly shutdown of critical loads.
UPS
systems are used in data centers, banks and other financial
institutions, air traffic control centers, critical manufacturing
processes, various government agencies, and stock
exchanges.
In today's UPS system, the battery of choice is
the Valve-regulated, lead-acid (VRLA) battery. The VRLA battery
offers increased reliability and safety due to its minimal gassing
and spill-proof design. The unique characteristics of the VRLA
battery result in a small footprint, requiring smaller space to
house the batteries.
GNB Sprinter VRLA batteries are
specifically designed and optimized for the UPS application. These
6-volt or 12-volt monoblock batteries are available in capacities
from 117 watts per cell to 741 watts per cell. GNB Sprinter
batteries offer the highest power density and best high-rate
performance of any battery on the market today.
These
batteries are also available in pre-assembled cabinet
systems.
For very large UPS systems, GNB Absolyte IIP
batteries are a perfect choice. These batteries offer reduced
service and maintenance, the ability to be stacked to reduce floor
space, and minimal gas evolution. Ranging in capacity from 240 watts
per cell to 9200 watts per cell, GNB Absolyte IIP batteries are
available in several configurations including the standard modular
configuration and the "relay rack"
configuration.
